Visa and Passport Information

All foreigners, regardless their nationality, are required to present a valid and not expired passport or travel document when entering Mexico (traveling by air, land or sea).

Some passports may need to have six months’ validity, please check with your country's passport office.

The INAMI, the National Migration Institute, asks for a VISA for citizens of the following

If a citizen from any of the countries listed above is a permanent resident of Canada, the US, Japan, the UK, or any of the Schengen countries he or she doesn’t need to apply for a visa. This also applies in the case that the citizen of any of the mentioned countries has a valid US visa.

If you have a valid and unexpired visa of the following countries: Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and any of the countries of the Schengen Area, you do not need a visa to enter Mexico for tourism, business or transit purposes. All individuals in this category are required to present their valid and unexpired visa along with their passports. Both documents must be valid during your entire stay in Mexico.

On the other hand, citizens from the following countries do not require a VISA to come to Mexico:

Please note that in both cases the INAMI refers to visitors coming for less than 180 days to Mexico, without any paid activities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs charges $555.76 MXN (around $36 USD) per visa application in all countries. This fee is charged in the currency of the country where applicants reside.

We recommend that you apply for your VISA early. If you need an invitation letter, please send email to Megan Warren at
