Frequently Asked Questions:

1) When will the preliminary program schedule be available?
No later than mid-to-late February.

2) What if I have a special scheduling request?
Contact Megan Warren at

3) How do I make a hotel reservation under the LSA group rate?
Instructions, along with the group rate code, will be provided to you in your confirmation email after registering.

4) Is there a Saturday luncheon this year?

5) Are there any grants available?
The deadline for graduate student and early career faculty travel assistance has passed. The only remaining grant opportunity currently open is the LSA Child Care Grant. More information can be found here.

6) I need special accommodation for a disability in my hotel room or while attending/presenting at the Meeting. What should I do?
Please contact Megan Warren and Christine Busiek so we can make arrangements for you.

7) The Labor Tour and/or the Local Reception is sold out. Can I get on a waiting list?
Yes, we will keep a waiting list of up to 20 people up until one week before the Meeting, and contact them in the order they were added about openings. Alternatively, we will have a whiteboard available near the LSA Office at which people can post messages about open spots or tickets for sale (LSA does not monitor this and makes no guarantees). If you’d like to be added to the waiting list, please contact Harshan Nagulapally at

8) Last year the Graduate Student Activity was open for registration. Can I register for that?
This year the Junior Scholars Workshop was by application only, so we will not be opening it up for registration. The committee may open the final session of the workshop to any who wish to attend, so please keep an eye out for more updated information on this page: workshops.html

9) I am waiting to hear about funding from another source to see if I can attend. Am I able to register now and still receive a full refund later if it turns out I don’t have enough funds?
No, unfortunately we cannot accommodate registrations this way. If you register and find out you later can’t attend for funding or scheduling purposes, LSA is only able to refund 50% of your registration fee until April 1st, after which we cannot offer any refund.

10) How do I get an invitation letter to use with my visa application?
We are able to provide invitation letters for individuals who have either (a) been accepted as presenters; or (b) paid the meeting registration fee. Please contact Megan Warren at to request a letter and verify eligibility.

11) If I’m recently graduated or just got a postdoc research position, can I still register at the student rate?
If you have recently graduated and are currently unemployed, you may register at the student rate. Postdoc researchers are not eligible to register at the student rate.

12) Do you have a one-day registration available?
No, unfortunately we are unable to offer a one-day registration at this time.

13) I can't attend anymore. Can I do a virtual presentation?
If your immigration status in the U.S. does not allow you to travel to Canada or return to the U.S., we can arrange for you to give your paper by Skype or other electronic means. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate other requests for virtual presentations. Note - Virtual presenters are still required to pay the conference registration fee.

14) The registration system does not recognize my email address. How can I register and pay for the meeting?
We have a separate system for meeting registration. If this is your first time attending the meeting and have never been a member, you likely do not yet have a profile set up. Please create a new account using the following address:
