CHICAGO 2025
Author Meets Reader/New Books in the Field
Author Meets Reader Session (AMR)
An Author-Meets-Reader (AMR) is a session in which discussion is focused on one to three recently published scholarly books. The session must include the author(s) of the book, three designated “readers” per book (as applicable) who provide comments, and a session chair (who may be one of the readers). AMR panels are limited to books published in the year prior to the LSA Annual Meeting. For the 2025 Meeting, the books must have a publication date in 2024.
For an AMR to be approved, it must meet the following requirements:
Discussion is focused on 1-3 sociolegal scholarly books.
1 chair, 3 readers (multiple book AMRs can have 3 readers for each book)
Book(s) must have copyright in the calendar year 2024.
Textbooks, case studies, or edited volumes for AMRs are ineligible.
AMR sessions last 1 hour and 45 minutes this year
CRN New Books in the Field
Introduced for the 2016 Annual Meeting, the CRN Book Introduction Session is an opportunity for CRN’s to introduce new books in their field of research.
The parameters for the CRN Book Introduction Session are:
There must be a minimum of five books published during the timeframe: the 2024 calendar year, and January through May of 2025.
Inclusion in a CRN Book Introduction Session does not preclude a 2024 book from being proposed for an AMR for this year or a 2025 book from being proposed for an AMR next year.
The session will be exempt from the LSA Participation Limit.
Book title and authors will be listed in the printed and online program. The only other person listed will be the chair/facilitator of the session. Readers of the sort in AMR sessions are inappropriate.
CRN’s may request that a CRN Book Introduction Session be one of their non-concurrent panels.
These sessions last 1 hour and 45 minutes
Please send New Books in the Field submissions directly to Melissa King (melissa.king@lawandsociety.org).
