International Research Collaboratives

The proposed IRC builds upon work we have been doing in and beyond LSA to stimulate international exchange on studies of penal policy and penal politics, and especially to stimulate and support collaboration between researchers in the Global North and South. The new collaboration that we propose here seeks to advance the goal of a comparative social analysis of penality across boundaries substantially further. Nonetheless, we anticipate that in the coming years, especially in the post-pandemic world, scholars from the global South may find it more difficult than ever to attend international meetings, access library and other research resources and apply for meaningful research resources. For these reasons the models of partnership and exchange that we envisage here depend upon the development of material infrastructure and support more urgently than ever.
